Dr. Prabhas Pande did his M.Sc. in Geology in the year 1971 and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 2008 by the University of Lucknow. In his service career in the Geological Survey of India (GSI) spanning for 37 years, he carried out geotechnical investigations of several river valleys and communication projects and studied over 15 damaging earthquakes that occurred in the Indian subcontinent since 1991. He supervised seismic hazard assessment of Urban Agglomerations at micro level, active fault mapping and palaeoseismic studies apart from providing policy and planning support. He superannuated as Additional Director General, GSI on 31st August 2011.
